Counsellors

Counsellors are at the core of delivering on our mission. In our residential camp settings, they participate with campers in a variety of daily activities as catalysts, leaders, supporters, and above all, as role models. They are directly responsible for the well-being of the children entrusted to our care, and for helping them develop lifelong skills.

Basic qualifications for Camp Counsellors:
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and/or Vulnerable Sector Search, if applicable
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada or the U.S. (based on camp location)
We also look for the following qualifications:
  • Experience working with children between the ages of 9 and 12
  • National Lifeguard Service (NLS)/Bronze Cross or equivalent certifications are considered assets
  • Bilingualism (English & French) to deliver French programming
  • Belief in a child-centred approach
  • A spirit of positivity, compassion and fun

These are residential positions that include full on-site accommodations and meals.

Bilingualism (English & French) may be required at some camp locations to deliver French programming.

Facilitators
Facilitators

Our Program Facilitators deliver recreational and educational programming, specific to each camp location and their unique program areas. Our Facilitators model the Foundation’s values and encourage campers to develop positive skills and beliefs about themselves and their abilities.

In addition to meeting our basic qualifications, Program Facilitators also possess role-specific certifications for the program area they are working in, as well as experience facilitating group activities.

Common certifications we look for include:
  • National Lifeguard Service (Lifesaving Society/American Red Cross)
  • Bronze Cross (Lifesaving Society)
  • Instructor level certification for the specific program area
  • Wilderness First Aid or equivalent 36 hour course
  • Wilderness First Responder or equivalent 80 hour course
  • Wilderness Water Safety
  • Moving Water Rescue (R3, WWRT, SRT)
  • ACCT, PVM, Level 1 and 2
  • ACMG Top Rope Climbing Instructor
  • ACMG Day Hike Guide
  • Provincially/nationally-recognized Tripping Level 1 and 2
  • Provincially/nationally-recognized Advanced Lake Tandem
  • Provincially/nationally-recognized Advanced Moving Water Tandem
  • Provincially/nationally-recognized Paddling Instructor (Paddle Canada, ORCKA)
Opportunities on the program team vary by camp location and include the following:

  • Adventure/Challenge Course Facilitators
  • Waterfront Facilitators

Wilderness
Wilderness

Our wilderness team is specific to Tim Horton Camp Whiteshell, based out of Manitoba and home of the Youth Leadership Program during the summer months. Wilderness staff support campers while they participate in a range of camp activities and backcountry camping experiences with the intention that participants develop in the areas of team-building, goal-setting and self-expression.

Wilderness opportunities include:

In addition to meeting our basic qualifications, they must also have experience facilitating group activities. Common certifications we look for include:

Wellness
Wellness

During our March and Summer Camp programming, each camp has an on-site wellness team designed to support the health and well-being of the campers and staff. Wellness Coordinators and Assistants run the wellness centre at each camp. Our Camper Support Specialists provide on-going coaching and support to camp staff as it relates to meeting camper needs, while ensuring a safe and successful camp experience. We look for wellness staff who have experience working with children and young adults, and who believe in a child-centred approach. In addition to meeting our basic qualifications, our wellness team must also have the following qualifications:

Wellness Coordinator (Camp Nurse)
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), or equivalent, in the respective province/state
  • Wilderness First Aid is considered an asset
Wellness Assistant
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience or current enrolment in a BScN, RN or RPN program, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university
  • Experience working under the direction of a nurse is a strong asset
Camper Support Specialist
  • Completed degree in social work or a diploma in child and youth work, or equivalent
  • Experience working with children and youth in a professional mental health setting

Food Services
Food Services

Each of our camps provide nutritious meals and snacks for up to 200 people, primarily children, on a daily basis. The food service team creates a wide variety of food to meet a range of dietary requirements and restrictions. The ability to follow directions, meet tight schedules and work as part of a team are key to success in these positions. We look for individuals who have a range of experience in the food service industry, as well as cooking credentials.

Roles within the food service team include:

Maintenance
Maintenance

Our maintenance team is responsible for keeping each of our camps in peak condition.  Our camps range from 50 to 400 acres and our maintenance team is responsible for general repairs, preventative maintenance and landscaping.  Demonstrated maintenance and landscaping experience, combined with knowledge of safe operation of power tools and landscaping equipment, such as power mowers and tractors, is required.  In certain roles, experience or certification in a skilled trade, such as carpentry, plumbing or electrical, is an asset.

Housekeeping
Housekeeping

The housekeeping team in each camp provides cleaning services for each of the buildings on-site including the office, guest rooms, and staff and camper accommodations. They are responsible for managing the inventory of cleaning supplies throughout the camp, and providing laundry services. Often working to tight deadlines to accommodate the camper schedules for arrival and departure, these positions require attention to detail and strong time management and organizational skills.

Experience in the hotel or resort industry is considered an asset.

Camp Management

Camp management is responsible for providing leadership in their respective areas and working together as a team to ensure the successful and safe operation of their camp. Managers are responsible for ensuring that campers are provided with a safe and successful camp experience.

The camp management team is made up of the following:

Home Office
Home Office

Located in beautiful St. George, Ontario, also home of Tim Horton Onondaga Farms, our Home Office is responsible for supporting our camps in delivering on our mission. Functions based out of our Home Office include:
