Youth from lower income households show higher rates of just about any health, social or education-related problem. They are more likely to experience a wide variety of illnesses, hospital stays, accidents, mental health problems, lower school achievement and early drop-out, family violence and child abuse.
Strengthening social ties and community connections can have a protective effect and help young people cope with challenging circumstances. We build community connections to help unlock potential and build productive paths forward.
“Camp is the most beautiful adventure I have been on in my life thus far. This camp has given me the confidence and opportunity to face challenges that I may face in my future, like speaking in front of large groups of people, and because of this I've never felt more in control of my own life.”
- Orson, Summer Program Participant
“Kids at inner city schools are just as bright… just as smart. They jump just as high and they run just as fast. They just haven’t had the opportunities. But when you give them the time and you give them the chance, they catch up really fast.”
- Terry, Teacher
